Monster Blowing Out Birthday Candles Coloring Page

It is the monster's birthday. He leans over a round two layer cake from behind, about to blow out the candles standing on top. The cake is the star here and it is built for coloring. A tall smooth side, a scalloped frosting edge running all the way round, and a flat top for the candles to stand on. Take the frosting and the sponge in different tones. A pale band of frosting over a deeper body reads as icing poured over cake, and the scalloped edge between them is where a third color earns its place. The candle flames are left as outlines. Flames look best with a pale center and a deeper tone at the outer edge, which is the opposite of how most people color them the first time. Try it that way and the flame glows. The candles already carry a spiral stripe wound round them like a barber pole, so pick two tones and alternate them up the twist. The monster behind the cake is drawn in the same scallop stroke fur as the rest of the set, so keep him simple and let the cake carry the color.
