Most of this page belongs to the tree. A wide, cloud shaped canopy fills the upper two thirds, sitting on a short trunk that splits into two low branches. The cub lies at the foot of it with its eyes shut and its muzzle resting on the ground, back curved toward you so the stripes run across the highest part of the body. A few tufts of grass sit around it and everything else is white paper.

That huge empty canopy is the point of the sheet. It is one closed shape big enough for a young child to fill without any precision at all, or for an older one to break into leaf clusters and work through slowly. Both approaches look right.

Green is not the only option up there. A canopy done in warm yellows and rust turns the whole scene into late afternoon, which suits a sleeping animal better than midday green does.

Tigers rest through the heat and hunt at dawn and dusk, so a cub asleep in shade at noon is doing exactly what a wild one would be doing at the same hour.
