Siberian Tiger Walking Through Snow Coloring Page

This sheet is mostly white, and deliberately so. The tiger walks from right to left across an open snowfield drawn with two or three soft contour lines, a young conifer standing at the left edge and a single tuft of dry grass poking through near each corner. The animal is drawn in full profile, low and long, with a deep ruff of fur along the jaw and cheeks and stripes that run down the flank as widely spaced open bands.

Wide stripes make this the most approachable of the realistic sheets. There is plenty of room between them for a pencil, so it suits an eight year old as readily as an adult.

Snow is never plain white on paper. Laying a very light blue or gray into the hollows of the drifts and leaving the raised areas bare gives the ground shape, and the same trick along the underside of the tiger separates the animal from the field it stands on.

Amur tigers, the ones that live in the Russian Far East, grow the thickest coat of any tiger and carry fewer, paler stripes than their tropical relatives. The heavy neck fur drawn here is the visible part of that adaptation.
