A sea turtle swims to the right across the upper part of this page, above a coral garden that runs along the bottom. Its shell is a high smooth dome divided by heavy lines into a handful of big plates, all of them left completely empty. Those plates are the reason this page works for a young colorist: each one is big enough to fill in a single stroke.

The head is round and friendly, with a large eye, a highlight dot inside it, a short curved mouth and a scatter of small marks across the cheek. The near front flipper is broad and paddle shaped and carries a mottled pattern of irregular patches, and a second flipper shows behind. A shorter rear flipper trails below the shell.

The coral bed below is a row of separate clumps rather than one mass. There are branching antler shapes, rounded brain corals grooved on top, low frilled fans, and clusters of small round polyps packed together like blossoms. Tall wavy fronds rise behind them on both sides. Everything sits on open paper with no water lines, so the white around the turtle reads as clear ocean.
