Letter R Is for Rabbit Coloring Page

This sheet shows a hollow capital R and a hollow lowercase r at the top, with a rabbit sitting up below, its two long ears standing straight. R is a letter where the capital does considerably more work than the lowercase. The capital keeps a straight spine, adds a bowl at the top and then kicks a leg out to the bottom right, so it is really the letter P with one extra diagonal. The lowercase r throws almost all of that away and keeps a short post with a small shoulder curving off the top. Children sometimes assume a lowercase letter is just a small capital, and r is one of the clearest examples in the alphabet that it is not. The rabbit below gives the page its height, with the two upright ears drawn as long open shapes that colour in quickly. The body stays smooth with no fur texture.
