F is a straight letter in its capital form, an upright spine with two arms, and it is the same skeleton as E with the bottom arm removed, which is a comparison worth pointing out if a child is working through the alphabet in order. The lowercase f changes character completely, curving over at the top into a hook and taking a crossbar through its middle.
