Baby Dolphin Swimming Beside Its Mother Coloring Page

Two dolphins travel the same direction across an open page, a large adult below and a much smaller calf above and behind her. Both are drawn in clean profile with wide white space between them, so neither body runs into the other and there is no confusion about which flipper belongs to whom.

Wild calves swim in exactly this position. Riding just off the mother's flank and slightly behind puts the baby in her slipstream, which pulls it along and lets it keep pace with an adult it could never match on its own.

Color the two bodies in the same family of tones but not the identical shade. A slightly warmer or lighter calf separates the pair without making them look like different species. Empty space around them is doing real work here, so resist the urge to fill it with waves.

Suits ages five and up. Two large simple shapes make it quick, and the size difference gives younger colorists an easy way to talk about what they are looking at.
