This is the gardener's sheet. A snug cottage sits square on the page with a steep roof, a wavy trim line running under the eaves and a round paned window set high in the gable. The front door is rounded over at the top. To its left is a square window with four panes and a plain sill, and below that a clay pot holds three wide open flowers on leafy stems. A matching pot stands on the other side of the door. Climbing the right hand wall all the way to the roof is a vine carrying round blooms and pointed leaves, and a chimney pokes up behind. Grass runs along the bottom on one curved line. There is a nice contrast built into the page. The cottage itself is made of long straight lines and big flat panels, while everything growing on it is round and repeated, so a child can switch between broad areas and small careful shapes without changing sheets. The vine is the piece worth saving for last. Take the leaves in one shade and the blooms in another, and it pulls the eye up the wall in a way that makes the whole cottage look taller than it is.
