A duck sits low in the water facing left, and the whole shape is soft and rounded with no sharp corners anywhere. Its head is almost a circle, topped with a tiny spray of three feathers, and one large eye takes up a good part of it. The bill is wide and flat with a single line dividing it, so it reads properly as a bill even though it is only two strokes. The body swells out behind the head and tapers to a tail that lifts at the back. Across the middle sits the folded wing, drawn as one long oval with three short feather strokes at its tip, which makes it the natural place to put a second color against the body. Below the waterline the shape simply stops, and four or five long curved ripples spread outward on either side, drawn thin and far apart. No pond edge, no reeds and no bank appear around it. The result is a page with very few pieces, and it works well for a child who wants to finish something quickly and still have it look complete.
