This hare is caught at full stretch, body stretched flat above the ground with all four legs off it. The back legs trail behind in a long line, the front pair reaches forward, and the very long ears lay back along the spine the way they do at speed. Coat texture is built from thousands of fine directional strokes that follow the muscle, which makes the fur read as fur rather than as flat shapes. A round cotton tail sits at the hip with short lines radiating out of it.
Below the animal a single horizon line marks flat open country. Clumps of grass, seed heads and a few small wildflowers grow along the near edge, with one loose flower floating on either side of the hare.
Curling art nouveau scrollwork frames the sheet, heaviest in the two top corners and thinning to single spirals down the sides. Those flourishes are the fiddly part and reward a fine tip. Save the body for last and work the fur in the same direction as the printed strokes rather than against them.
