A fox kit sits upright and faces left, with its big bushy tail curled all the way around to rest beside its front paws. Two tall pointed ears stand up from a narrow head, and a thin muzzle runs forward to a small dark nose.

The coat has no markings on it anywhere. No patches, no spots and no drawn-in fur, just a clean outline from the ears down to the paws. Fox pages are often covered in little strokes meant to look like fur, and they nearly always end up looking scratchy and being unpleasant to color. This one leaves the whole animal open.

The tail is the largest single area on the sheet and the best place to do something. A real fox kit has a pale tip, and taking the last third of that curl lighter than the rest is one stroke of work for a result that looks properly observed.

Orange is the expected answer. A silver fox in grays with a white tip works just as well and looks unusual next to every other fox page a child has colored.

The ears have an inner shape drawn inside each one, which is the one place on the sheet where a second, softer color has somewhere obvious to go.
