Baby Otter Floating on Its Back Coloring Page

An otter pup floating belly up with its paws folded on its chest, drawn with almost nothing inside the outline.

This otter has found the most comfortable position an otter can find and has no intention of leaving it. It floats on its back with its tummy up, front paws folded together on its chest and both back feet turned out to the sides.

The drawing is almost entirely empty on purpose. The body is one long rounded shape running from the shoulders down to a flat paddle of a tail, and there is no line inside it at all. For a child who is still learning to steer a crayon, that matters more than any amount of detail would: the whole animal can be filled in one direction without crossing anything.

The face is where the few lines live. Two round eyes, a broad nose, a small smile underneath and three whisker lines sweeping out on each side. Two little ears sit high on the head.

Brown is the natural answer and it looks right, but this is a page that takes a wild color well. The shape reads as an otter whether it is brown, blue or purple, because the pose is doing the work rather than the coloring.

If you want one extra step, take the paws and the tail a shade deeper than the body. It is the only place on the sheet where two tones meet.
