A young monkey hangs from a branch by both hands, arms stretched straight up, body swinging free below and a long tail curling off to one side. It is looking straight out at you and it is delighted about the whole arrangement.
One branch crosses the top of the sheet with three leaves on it, and that is the entire setting. Nothing else has been drawn behind the animal, which keeps the monkey unmistakably the subject and leaves the middle of the page open.
The face is built for coloring: two big round eyes, a rounded muzzle with a wide smile across it, and two large ears standing out on either side with an inner curve drawn in each. The body below is a plain rounded shape with no marks on it at all.
The usual scheme is a mid brown body with a paler face, ears and hands, which is how monkeys are almost always drawn and which works because the paler shapes are already separated by lines.
The leaves are worth treating as their own small decision rather than an afterthought. Three green leaves is the expected answer. Three leaves in three different colors turns the top of the page into something deliberate.
