The bottom three quarters of this page is a meadow seen at eye level, packed with daisies, cosmos, small round buds on wiry stems and long grass blades pushing up between them. There are well over a hundred flower heads and most are small, which makes this a sheet to work through slowly rather than plan out in advance. Four butterflies with patterned wings and two bees fly in the open space above, and the upper left corner is left entirely blank. The scale is both the challenge and the reward here. Almost nothing is bigger than a fingernail, so a fine tip is essential and a marker will ruin it. Because the flowers are drawn as several repeating types, the sensible method is to assign a color to each type and work across the whole meadow one type at a time, which stops the finished page looking muddled. The grass blades running between everything can stay white without hurting the design, and leaving them keeps the lower half from going solid. The butterflies are the only large clean shapes and make a satisfying place to finish.
