This is a repeating pattern rather than a single picture, so the design runs off all four edges of the sheet and clearly continues beyond them. At the middle sits one large lotus seen head on, three tiers of pointed petals opening around a rounded bud with a ribbed seed pad at its base. Those petals are big and clean and each carries a few long spine lines. Everything surrounding the lotus is fine ornament: mirrored sprays of leaves, curling scrollwork, small arrowheads and beaded stems, repeated at all four corners and along every side. The ornament is dense and some of its parts are only a couple of millimeters across, so this page asks for a fine liner or a freshly sharpened pencil and good light. The strategy that works best is to finish the central lotus first in whatever palette you like, then pick two accent colors and use them strictly for the surrounding filigree, alternating them so the repeat becomes visible. Treating that ornament as one texture instead of a hundred separate decisions is the difference between completing this sheet and abandoning it half done.
