Almost all of the pattern sits in one place. A wide cuff of geometric banding wraps the ankle, and below it the top of the foot is bare paper apart from a single slim vine. The contrast between the crowded band and the empty foot is the whole idea.

Five bands are stacked inside that cuff, divided from one another by fine parallel rules. Working downward: upright lozenges with stems between them, a run of zigzag, a row of solid dots, a row of small tents each holding one hook, and a border of open circles spaced along the lower edge. A tiny sprig with curled arms sits above the cuff, the only mark on the ankle itself.

The vine drops from just under the band toward the toes, a slender stem hung with a bud, a small open flower and paired leaves, tapering to a flourish. The foot is drawn from above, toes along the bottom of the page, largest at the inner edge and stepping down in size to the smallest at the outside. Toenails are plain rounded squares with nothing inside them.

Use a fine tip. The bands are narrow and a broad marker will close up the gaps between the dots and the zigzag. Treating the cuff as a piece of jewelry, a color to each band, and keeping the vine soft, holds the eye where the drawing put it.
