One cherry branch crosses the sheet from the lower left to the upper right, and everything else is open paper. Five open blossoms cluster where the branch forks, each with five rounded petals and a spray of fine stamens at its heart. Around them sit half a dozen closed buds on short side twigs, drawn as simple teardrops that take a single wash of color in seconds. Below the branch, five loose petals fall through empty space toward the bottom of the page. Those drifting petals are the reason to slow down here. Nothing anchors them, so whatever you do with them sets the mood of the whole sheet: pale pink reads as spring, deep red reads as evening, and leaving two or three of them white keeps the motion visible. The line weight is light throughout and the shapes are large, so this suits a fine tip pen or a sharp pencil rather than a thick marker. The bare wood of the branch is the only long unbroken shape and holds a gray or brown wash well. Roughly a third of the page stays empty on purpose, which makes this one of the quicker sheets in the floral set.
