Iris Flowers With Swirling Decorative Borders Coloring Page

Four bearded irises with sword shaped leaves, and four solid black corner ornaments as the only dark marks.

Four bearded irises rise from the bottom of the sheet, three fully open with ruffled standards above and falls hanging below, and a fourth lower down at the left that has only just unfurled. Long sword shaped leaves cross behind the stems and reach almost to the top of the page. That is the whole drawing. The remaining decoration lives in the four corners, each carrying a compact ornament of curling stems, small leaves and a few solid black accents with a pair of round dots set into it. Those corners are the darkest marks on the sheet by a wide margin. A good deal of the middle right of the page stays white, which gives the composition air and makes it far less daunting than the border first suggests. Irises are worth some thought. The falls on a real flower are darker and more heavily veined than the standards above them, and following that on paper, dark below and light above, is what stops these reading as four identical purple shapes on a stalk.
