A boy sits in a small boat a short way out from the bank, rod held in both hands and bent into a curve, the line arcing away to the left over the water. A branch heavy with blossom leans in from the left bank and reaches most of the way across the top of the scene. Behind him in the boat is a rounded bundle with an oar propped against it. The lake runs away in long ripple lines to a far shore of low trees and reeds, and tall rushes and wide open flowers fill both bottom corners. Flourishes sit in each corner of the frame.

This says kids and shows one boy. The boat has room for another if someone wants to draw one in.

The water is the bulk of the work and it is all long horizontal strokes. Resist filling it. A pale wash across the lower half and clean white where the light would catch is what makes a lake look flat and still.

Fish feed hardest in the first and last hour of daylight, when the low sun stops them being able to see a shape on the bank. The middle of a hot afternoon, which is what this drawing shows, is close to the worst time to try.
