A mushroom sits on the ground with an open book held up in both hands, eyes down on the page. The book is drawn as two blank panels meeting at a central fold, and both sides are left completely empty. That is deliberate. A child can write a title across them, draw their own tiny story inside, or simply color the pages and leave it at that. Two small feet poke out below, and tufts of grass run along the ground on either side. The empty book turns this from a coloring page into something slightly more open ended. Ask a child what the mushroom is reading and the answer usually arrives before the crayons do. For color, a dark cap over pale book pages gives the strongest contrast, since the eye goes straight to the brightest area and you want that to be the thing being read. The spotted cap offers a dozen small circles for anyone who likes detail work.
