Tip a mushroom over and the best part comes into view. This sheet shows the underside of a wide cap, with gills radiating out from the stem to the rim in dozens of fine lines. Nothing is shaded. Each gill is its own line with clear paper on either side, so the whole underside reads as a fan of stripes waiting for a pencil. A sturdy stem rises through the middle and a little grass sits at its foot. Gills reward patience. Work with a sharp point and follow each line outward rather than scrubbing across them. Keep the whole area lighter than the cap, then deepen it gradually toward the stem where real gills sit in shadow. Leave the outer tips almost white and the underside suddenly has depth. This is the most anatomically honest page in the set and a genuinely useful one for anyone learning to draw fungi, since the gill structure is the detail most beginners guess at and get wrong.
