This sheet is arranged in three clear layers, and the split is what makes it satisfying to work through.
High up, a single steep mountain climbs almost to the top edge. Its face is broken by long ridge lines and shallow gullies that fan out from the summit toward the base, and small rounded clouds sit on either side of it. Two birds circle near the peak, drawn with a few strokes each.
Crossing in front of the slope are two butterflies at noticeably different sizes, one nearer and one further off. Both carry fine wing veins with rows of small marks around the outer edges, and the difference in scale between them is what creates the sense of distance.
The lower third is a thick meadow band. Grass blades stand upright and lean into one another, and pushing up among them are tulip shaped flowers, small round buds and several tall seed heads with grain arranged along their stalks.
Because the page divides so cleanly into mountain, sky and meadow, it suits being colored in stages. Cool grays and blues up top against warm greens below will reinforce the distance the drawing already suggests. All of it is open outline on white paper.
