Tropical Butterfly In A Rainforest Canopy Coloring Page

One large butterfly holds the middle of an open page while heavy veined canopy leaves press in from every side and blooms sit in the top corners.

Nearly the entire border of this sheet is leaves. They arrive from all four sides in overlapping layers, some long and pointed, some broad and blunt, and each carries a midrib with ten or more side veins branching off it. Two round many petaled flowers sit in the upper corners and a third opens at the lower left.

The butterfly is left alone in the middle with clear paper all around it. Its wings are spread wide and the pattern is asymmetric in an interesting way: the upper pair carry a scattering of small dark ovals near the leading edge, while the lower pair end in a short tail with a heavy dark tip. Rows of thin strokes fan out from the body across all four.

Its face is drawn larger than usual, with two round eyes and a pair of long antennae curving apart above the head.

Because a canopy really is one continuous green, resist coloring it that way. Two or three greens of different temperature will pull the layers apart and stop that border reading as a single flat mass.
