Butterfly Resting on a Mossy Rock by a Stream Coloring Page
A monarch opens its wings on a moss covered boulder while a shallow stream runs past it over flat stepping stones and long ripple lines.

A wide boulder fills the lower left of this sheet and a butterfly has landed square on top of it. The wings are open and patterned in the monarch manner, with dark cell borders, a scalloped outer edge and paired dots along both margins.
Moss is what makes the stone worth coloring. It appears as hundreds of short wavy strokes clustered across the upper surface and down the shaded left flank, thinning out where the rock is bare and smooth. Those bare areas hold a few long contour lines that follow the curve of the boulder around toward the water.
The stream runs from behind the rock toward the bottom right. Its current is suggested by long horizontal lines that bend around four flat stepping stones, and a small pebble rests at the right bank.
Thin branches reach in from both top corners, each hung with rounded leaves in pairs, while tufts of grass and pointed foliage crowd the lower edges.
A useful approach is to save the water until last. Once the rock and the leaves are down you can pick a blue that sits behind them instead of competing for attention.
