This page reads from left to right and holds only two drawings. On the left a slender stem rises from the bottom edge, putting out pointed leaves at intervals and finishing in a small four petal flower. Partway up it hangs a smooth rounded pod, and a short striped grub with two tiny feelers sits on the curve of it.

On the right a butterfly perches on a thin curving stalk of its own. Its wings show in profile, three panels deep, each filled with rounded compartments and edged with rows of small open circles. One antenna curls forward above a dot eye and a short curved mouth.

Everything else is bare paper, and there is a great deal of it.

The distance between the two halves is the whole idea of the drawing, so color them to match. Carry one shade through the grub's stripes and again through the butterfly's wing compartments and a viewer joins them without being told. If you would rather the change feel sudden, keep the left stem quiet and green and hold every bright color back for the right.
