Five butterflies drift across the upper two thirds of this page, and no two are drawn from the same angle. One climbs at the top left with its wings nearly shut, another glides at the right with the far wing hidden behind the near one, and three more sit at intervals between them with their wings half open. All five share the same markings, a bold band of dark cells around the outside of each wing with a line of small white dots set into it, over a striped body and a pair of clubbed antennae.
Underneath, a row of flowers stands on tall straight stems. Most are daisies with narrow petals around a densely stippled middle, and a few round buds and long strap leaves fill in at the base.
The repeated wing pattern is an invitation to a limited palette. Give all five insects the same two colors and vary only which parts take which, and the group reads as one species seen from five angles. Then send the flowers somewhere else entirely, so the two halves of the page stay distinct.
