Butterfly Flying Over a Snowy Mountain Landscape Coloring Page
A single butterfly glides above a bare mountain range and a scatter of pine trees on this uncluttered winter page.

The top half of this sheet stays almost entirely blank. One butterfly angles across it in a three quarter view, its near wings turned toward the viewer and the far pair foreshortened behind. Long cells run the length of each wing, a row of small circles follows the outer rim, and a short striped body sits between them.
Below the midline a mountain range crosses the page. Four peaks rise to different heights, their faces broken by a few sparse lines standing in for ridges and snow. Rolling hills sweep across the foreground, and pine trees stand on them in a loose row, tall ones toward the edges and smaller ones set back near the peaks. A few blades of grass poke up at the lower left.
That huge empty sky is the opportunity here. A flat pale wash across it pushes the mountains back and makes the butterfly float, and since there is no line work to steer around you can lay the tone down quickly. Save your strongest color for the insect, the only warm thing anywhere in this landscape.
