Butterfly Emerging from Rain Soaked Garden Coloring Page

Rain falls in neat rows past a wide open monarch while leaves and blooms crowd both edges of this dense page.

A monarch occupies the middle of this page with its wings spread to their full width. Heavy black margins wrap all four and carry a double row of pale ovals, while the interiors split into long teardrop cells that narrow toward the body. The abdomen is banded like a rope, and two antennae curve apart above it.

Rain fills the space around the insect, drawn as columns of small tapered drops falling at an even pitch. Both side margins are thick with plant life. Broad pointed leaves overlap in layers, each ruled with fine parallel veins, and flowers push through between them with stippled centers and rounded petals.

The rain is the deciding element. Left white it vanishes into the page, so give the drops a single pale tint and repeat that tint nowhere else on the sheet. A cool blue or a soft violet will do, and the contrast against warm foliage makes the weather visible.

One thing to know before you start: the veining is fine enough that a broad marker will swallow it. Pencils hold that texture where a marker flattens it.
