Butterfly Colony on a Flowering Meadow Path Coloring Page

Dozens of butterflies lift off a dense flower bank and shrink into the distance above a curving stepping stone path.

A bank of daisies fills the lower left quarter of this page, packed so tightly that the blooms overlap. Each opens a ring of narrow petals around a stippled middle, and long leaves and closed buds push through the gaps between them. A path curves out of that bank toward the bottom right, drawn as a scatter of flat ovals that shrink as they recede.

From the flowers a stream of butterflies climbs diagonally across the sheet. The nearest ones are several inches across and show their full pattern, rows of cells inside a beaded border. Further up they drop to thumbnail size, then to little more than a pair of marks, until the last of them are single specks near the top edge. Two curls of fine scrollwork sit in the upper corners.

Scale does the work on this page, so let your color follow it. Spend your detail on the four or five large butterflies at the front and treat the distant swarm as one flat tone. Give every butterfly equal attention and the depth collapses, at which point the swarm stops reading as distance.
