Butterfly and Dragonfly Together on a Lily Pad Coloring Page

Three insects and one leaf are all that occupy this sheet, and it leaves more paper bare than covered. A dragonfly stands at the middle on four thin legs, planted on the near edge of a floating pad. Two large round eyes sit on its head, its four wings stretch back in narrow panels ruled with fine cross lines, and a long segmented tail trails behind it.

To the left a butterfly hovers in profile, its wings oval and marked with a scatter of small circles, one antenna curling forward. A much smaller butterfly floats near the top edge with four little rounded wings.

The pad is a single broad shape with a notch cut into one side, split by a few gentle fold lines, and a shallow arc beneath it stands in for the waterline.

With this much open space the background turns into a real decision. Leave it white and the pad appears to float in nothing. Lay a very light wash across the lower half and that same white becomes water, which pulls the three insects and the leaf into one scene.
