The middle of this sun is a true spiral, wound from stacked rows of small scallops that coil inward to a point, and it is the most unusual center anywhere in the mandala set. Ringing it are several narrow bands of dots and repeated petals, then a wide ring of pointed leaf shapes, and finally about twenty long rays reaching out toward the edges of the sheet, each striped along its length with fine internal lines. The whole design has the look of a henna pattern rather than a geometric one. That spiral is where to spend your time. Following it around with a single color that darkens gradually as it winds inward is genuinely satisfying and takes the better part of an hour, and no other page here offers quite that. The surrounding bands are small, repetitive and best treated as texture in one or two tones. The long outer rays are the only large shapes and will carry a bold color, which is useful, because the middle of this page will be busy no matter what you do.
