The middle of this mandala holds a plain circle with a single curved comma shape inside it, and around that circle runs a ring of small teardrops. Beyond them spread two ranks of rays, and the inner core of every ray is filled solid black in a narrow diamond, which gives the design a strong spotted rhythm seen from a distance. Beading connects the ray tips around the outer rim. Despite the title there are no stars anywhere on the sheet, and what sits at the middle reads more as a wave than as a moon. The drawing is on the softer side, printed with a slightly blurred line rather than a crisp one, so very fine work will not hold on it. Keep to the larger areas and it is a perfectly good page. Those solid black diamonds are already supplying the contrast, so a restrained scheme works best: one color for the outer rank of rays, another for the inner, and the middle circle left white or given a pale wash.
