Sun Mandala With Bird Silhouettes Woven Into Rays Coloring Page

A single bird flies inside the open circle at the middle of this mandala, drawn in plain outline with its wings spread, surrounded by a rim of fine radiating stipple that reads as light behind it. The title suggests birds woven through the rays, but there is only this one, and it forms the quiet middle of an otherwise forceful design. Around it sit ranks of dark arrowhead shapes pointing outward, then twelve heavy black diamonds at the rim, each holding a small pale motif. A faint outer circle encloses the whole thing on white paper. The bird is what to protect. Everything surrounding it is already heavily inked, so the temptation is to fill the middle circle as well, and doing that loses the one open space the drawing has. Leave the bird white, give the stippled rim a pale yellow at most, and put your color into the arrowheads and diamonds, where the solid black will hold any intensity you throw at it. Two colors alternating around the twelve points is plenty.
