Optical Illusion Geometric Mandala With 3D Effect Coloring Page

A single enormous rosette fills this page, built from long narrow chevron petals repeating outward through about six rings until they reach a rim of heart shaped lobes at the outer edge. Small spirals and curled forms are worked into the gaps between rings. At the middle everything converges on one small open circle. The title promises a three dimensional illusion and the drawing does not really deliver one, so take it for what it is: a very dense flat rosette with sixteen fold symmetry. You can build the depth yourself, though, and this sheet is unusually well suited to it. Because the chevron petals sit in clean concentric rings, shading each ring darker at its outer end than its inner end makes the whole mandala appear to dome up off the paper. That is the one technique which transforms this page. The alternative is to ignore depth entirely and run a spectrum around the sixteen fold divisions, which is faster and quite striking. The rim of hearts holds the only genuinely large shapes and is a sensible place to start.
