Twelve long spearheads radiate from the middle of this mandala and set the outline of the whole design, their tips reaching most of the way to the edges of the sheet. Inside them sit four further rings of pointed petals, each ring rotated against the one below it so that the points of one fall into the gaps of the next, and at the very middle a small tight rosette closes the pattern. The line here is worth a comment. It is drawn in dark charcoal rather than dense black and is slightly softer than the other mandalas in this group, so the printed sheet looks lighter on the page than the heavier designs do. Every region is still fully closed and takes color normally. That lighter line is an advantage if you work in pale tones, because there is no hard black edge fighting your color. Twelve fold symmetry hands you an easy scheme: pick three colors, run them around the twelve spearheads in order, and let the inner rings echo the same sequence. There is no border and no background, so the corners of the page stay white.
