Twelve large diamonds form a single ring around one wide empty circle at the middle of this mandala. Four of them come to sharp points at the top, bottom, left and right, and the eight between those have softly rounded corners, so the shapes alternate as your eye travels around the ring. Small pointed notches sit in the gaps along the inner edge, each one a tiny diamond in its own right. The circle at the center is completely bare, which makes it the obvious place to start or the one area worth leaving white. A thin wavy line weaves behind the ring and traces a gentle scalloped boundary at the outer edge. That line is much finer than the diamond outlines, so it sits back as background instead of competing with the main shapes. Generous white space separates every diamond from its neighbors, and the four corners of the sheet stay bare. Counting the middle, there are only around twenty five areas to fill on the whole page. Crayons and thick markers both handle it well, since none of the shapes taper to a point too narrow to reach. A repeating two color sequence around the ring is the quickest way to bring out the alternating sharp and rounded shapes.
