Fine lines cover nearly every part of this design. A large butterfly spreads its wings at the middle, and the outer margin of each carries a dense band of small dots laid in rows, with more gathered along the inner edges of the hindwings. Wing interiors divide into long narrow cells that follow the curve of the wing. Behind the insect a rosette opens in several layers, its outer tips drawn as pointed lozenges with small eyes at their middles.

Very little open paper survives on this sheet, so expect it to take more than one sitting.

Dots reward a different tool than the rest of the page. If you own a fine liner or a gel pen, fill the beaded bands with it and use pencil everywhere else. That change in texture separates border from wing far more clearly than a change of color would. Should the dots feel like too much, color straight over a whole band in one flat tone and let the printed pattern show through as texture.
