Butterfly Mandala Coloring Page

A single butterfly sits at the center of this mandala with its wings spread wide, and everything else in the design radiates out from it. Rings of teardrop petals stack behind those wings, each one outlined and then filled with smaller shapes, and the outermost ring finishes in sharp spikes that give the whole circle a starburst edge. Solid black areas are already printed into the pattern, which means part of the contrast is decided for you and the rest is yours. Because the design repeats around the circle, the easiest approach is to finish one wedge completely, then copy that scheme around the ring. Symmetry is what makes a mandala satisfying, so resist the urge to improvise halfway through. The butterfly in the middle deserves its own palette, something brighter or warmer than the rings behind it, so it does not sink into the background. Move from the center outward and your hand will not smudge finished sections. The narrow points on the outer rim are tight, so a fine tip pen or a sharpened pencil will serve you better than a marker there.
