Rings of petals build outward from a butterfly at the middle of this design. The insect itself is drawn plainly, with long veined wings and a striped body. Around it a first layer of broad rounded petals spreads out, and inside almost every one sits a small flower or a pair of curled leaves. A second, larger ring of pointed petals frames the whole arrangement, and a few narrow spikes push past it at the top and bottom to break the circle.
The layout does the hard work for you. Everything is arranged around one axis, so any scheme that repeats around the ring will look deliberate.
Simplest is to pick a color per ring and hold it all the way around. More interesting is to rotate three shades petal by petal, so the color turns as your eye travels the circle. Keep the butterfly out of that rotation entirely and give it something that appears nowhere else on the page.
