A side view locomotive heads to the right along a straight track with one open wagon coupled behind it. Everything about the drawing is built for small hands: the boiler is a single long tube, the cab is a simple box with one square window, three driving wheels sit in a row beneath the frame, and the cowcatcher at the front reduces to five straight bars. No rivet detail and no crosshatching appear anywhere on the sheet.
Smoke leaves the funnel in four rounded puffs that climb toward the top right corner, and because they are drawn as closed outlines they can hold color instead of staying white. Behind the train two low hills cross the page with a small conifer standing on each, and the rail bed below is marked with evenly spaced ties.
Large stretches of open paper sit above and below the scene, which makes this a good candidate for a background wash or for adding your own sun and birds. Crayons are the right tool. Print it at letter size for a preschool table, or scale it up for a poster sized group project.
