Goldilocks And The Three Bears

Three bowls sit on a round pedestal table in the lower half of this page, and everything else in the picture is arranged around them. At the far left a girl stands in a plain pinafore dress, her hair split into two braids that fall forward over her shoulders. Beside her is the smallest bear, barely taller than the tabletop, with a round head and two little ears. Next comes a middle sized bear whose arms rest on the table edge. At the right stands the tallest of the three, drawn head and shoulders above the others with a broad chest and a rounded muzzle. Lining the four figures up by height turns the sheet into a counting game as much as a coloring one, and children often want to give each bear a different shade so the size order stays readable once the page is finished. The line work is deliberately open. Every bear is built from a handful of large curved shapes with almost nothing drawn inside them, and the table is a plain oval on a single stem. That leaves a lot of white paper across the top of the sheet, which is worth keeping clear so the row of figures stands out.
