Two is the first number a child can check without counting, because a pair reads as a pair at a glance. This sheet puts that to work. A large numeral 2 fills the middle of the page as an open bubble outline, and two round ducklings stand beside it with wide flat beaks and plenty of blank body to colour. Children who are still learning the shape of the digit often confuse it with a 5, so trace the curve and the flat base with a finger before you hand over a crayon. Then point at each duckling in turn and count them out loud together. Two objects also let you introduce simple language that comes up all through early maths, so try asking which duckling is on the left, which is on the right, and whether the two of them match. The outlines are thick enough for a chunky crayon and the background stays empty, so a three year old can finish the whole page without help.
