The whole donut is a heart, and so is the hole through the middle. That doubling is what makes the page work. The outer edge curves down from two rounded lobes to a soft point at the bottom, and the hole repeats the same shape at a smaller scale, dead center. Between the two runs a wide band of glaze with a gently wavy lower edge, and about twenty five small oval sprinkles are spread across it. Every sprinkle is an open outline, so none of them are solid marks you have to color around. The outlines on this sheet are the boldest in the set. They stand up to fat crayons, dot markers and small hands that press hard. Nothing else appears on the page, which leaves a wide margin of clean paper on every side. This is the sheet to reach for around Valentine's Day, and it works just as well as a card front. Color it, cut around the outer heart and fold a piece of paper behind it. Older children often ignore the sprinkles entirely and fill the glaze band with their own pattern instead, which the wide empty area invites.
