This is the plainest donut in the set and the best one to start with. A single ring sits on a round wooden board, drawn from directly above so you see the whole glazed top at once. The glaze runs around the donut with a wavy edge that dips and rises like icing that has just set. Inside that edge, about twenty sprinkles lie scattered across the surface. Every one is drawn as a small open outline rather than a filled dash, so each sprinkle is its own tiny shape to color. The hole in the middle is wide and completely empty. The board underneath is a plain circle with a second line just inside its edge, and a few short diagonal strokes run across the lower left of it to suggest grain. Nothing else competes for space. Young children can fill the glaze in one color and dot the sprinkles in another. Older colorists usually slow down and give every sprinkle a different shade, which turns a two minute page into a twenty minute one. Print it on thick paper if you plan to use markers, because the glaze is a wide unbroken area and heavy ink can bleed through thin stock.
