Turkey Wearing a Pilgrim Hat Coloring Page

A tall pilgrim hat sits square on this turkey's head, brim wide, band crossing the front and a large square buckle centered on it. Underneath, the bird has oversized round eyes, a small beak and a wattle curling down one side. Layered feathers spread out on both sides of a rounded body, and two small feet poke out at the bottom. Everything is drawn in heavy outlines with almost no interior detail.

The hat is the decision. Colored the traditional black it goes solid and heavy, and on paper that means a lot of crayon for very little reward, so many people do better taking it dark gray or deep blue and leaving the buckle white so it still reads as metal. That choice frees the feathers to be as bright as you like without the page fighting itself.

About the hat itself: the buckled version is a nineteenth century invention. Actual seventeenth century colonists wore plain felt hats without buckles, and artists added the buckle much later because it looked suitably old fashioned to Victorian eyes. The drawing follows the tradition rather than the history.
