Turkey Peeking Out From Behind a Hay Bale Coloring Page

A huge round hay bale takes up most of this sheet, drawn as a plain circle crossed by four long curved lines that follow the way the hay was rolled. The turkey is barely in the picture. A head on a curved neck, one open wing and three tail feathers appear around the left side and over the top, which is exactly enough to tell you what is hiding there. Grass runs along the base of the bale.

The bale is enormous and empty, which is either the appeal or the problem depending on the child. A young one can fill it happily with a single fat crayon in about a minute. An older one might prefer to use the four curved lines as guides and shade each band a slightly different straw color so the roll looks cylindrical. Both readings of the page are correct.

Those wrapped bales are genuinely large. A round bale of dry hay stands about five feet tall and weighs between 1,000 and 1,500 pounds, which is why they are moved with a tractor spike rather than by hand.
