Turkey Pecking Corn From a Smooth Basket Coloring Page

A basket has tipped onto its side and two long corn cobs have rolled out in front of it. The turkey leans down toward them with its neck stretched and its tail fan standing tall behind, so the shape of the whole bird curves from the top of the page to the bottom left corner. Each cob carries rows of individual square kernels with the husk peeled back at one end.

Those kernel rows are the reason to print this one. There are dozens of small enclosed shapes and they reward a patient hand, whether the whole cob goes a uniform yellow or every kernel gets a slightly different shade. Older children who find large open areas boring usually settle into this kind of repetitive detail work for far longer than you expect. Keep the basket plain so the corn stays the busiest thing here.

Colored kernels are not decoration. Indian corn gets its reds, blues and near blacks from anthocyanin pigments in each individual kernel, and because every kernel is a separate seed with its own genetics, one ear can carry half a dozen colors at once.
