A comic scene: the turkey sprints away from a laid table, legs blurred with motion lines, glancing back over its shoulder with an alarmed expression, while cutlery and a chair go flying. The detailed treatment fills the table behind with a full setting and gives the bird every feather. It is the funniest page in the Thanksgiving set and one of the more involved.
Motion lines are usually left alone, and they should be, but the feathers can carry the movement instead. Do the feathers on the trailing side of the bird in lighter, thinner strokes than those on the leading side, and the whole animal will appear to be moving fast. The table can stay calm and neatly finished, which only makes the contrast funnier.
Turkeys really can move. A wild one runs at about twenty five miles an hour over open ground and takes off almost vertically when startled, though it can only hold flight for a few hundred yards before it has to come down.
