The turkey stands square in the middle of the sheet with its tail opened into a complete fan behind it, each feather drawn as a long rounded shape with a line running down the center. It has a friendly cartoon face, eyelashes and a long wattle. Pumpkins sit in the bottom corners, and trailing ivy with broad leaves climbs both sides and across the top. The shapes are large and clearly separated, so this works across a wide age range.
That fan of feathers is a ready made color wheel. Rather than making them all brown, work through the autumn range from one side to the other, deep red at one edge through orange and gold to a warm brown at the other. Keep the body a single mid brown so the tail carries the display. The wattle and the bare skin around the eye want a strong pink red, which is what they actually are on a live bird.
The fan is called a strut and only the males do it. A displaying tom also flushes the bare skin of his head, which can shift between red, white and blue within seconds depending on his mood.
