Scarecrow In A Field Of Autumn Crops At Harvest Coloring Page

A cheerful scarecrow stands on its post in a field of corn stalks and pumpkins, straw hat on, patched shirt, birds perched unbothered along its arms. Nothing about it is spooky, which sets it apart from the darker scarecrow page in the Halloween collection. The simple line work gives big clear areas in the shirt, the hat and the crops behind. Four and up.

Patches are the feature to make the most of. Give every patch on the shirt a different color and pattern, checks on one, dots on another, and the figure immediately looks handmade. The corn stalks behind can be done quickly in two greens without much care, since they are only a backdrop, and that lets a child spend attention where it shows.

Corn grown for grain is harvested dry rather than fresh, so a field left standing into late autumn like this one is a field being dried on the stalk. The rustle that comes off it in the wind is the sound of leaves with almost no moisture left in them.
